Environmental policy

Nolte Mezzanine takes responsibility for the effects of business activities on people, the environment and business operations. We make conscious choices to achieve a balance between People, Planet and Profit.
Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is embedded in our business processes. We balance stakeholder interests, people, companies and organisations involved. Naturally, we at least comply with Dutch environmental legislation.

Sustainable development (R&D)
Nolte’s policy is focused on sustainable development. This is why Nolte is already experimenting with different materials to make Mezzanine floors. Today, a Mezzanine floor is made of steel and wood or steel grids. Nolte is thinking about using (recyclable) materials in its Mezzanine floors as well. In any case, Nolte Mezzanine floors are designed so that they can be easily dismantled and fully rebuilt elsewhere. This cannot be achieved with a concrete intermediate floor or concrete system floor. which is why Nolte Mezzanine floors are many times more environmentally friendly in that area alone. The idea behind this is mainly that current (economic) growth should not have a negative impact on future generations. Therefore, it is good to take the environment into account in several areas. Because Nolte is an internationally oriented company, Nolte does not only take Dutch environmental legislation into account. European regulations and any applicable national environmental laws are also respected.

Sustainable and environmentally friendly powder coating
The environment is also fully taken into account wherever possible in the various production applications. This is why Nolte, for example, has chosen to powder-coat its products. This is because no solvents are released. This is because the lacquer consists of a solid substance and no chemical additives are needed to make it adhere to the product. Also, the lacquer that does not adhere to the product can be reused, as the excess powder can be sprayed on a product again. These two properties make the powder coating process environmentally friendly. Powder paint contains no solvent and/or diluent and is completely free of heavy metals such as lead chromate. Substitutes are used for these to ensure maximum environmental protection. Thanks to a recovery system that is as simple as it is unique, very little powder is lost during the coating process. Powder coating is therefore extremely efficient. Mother Nature benefits. Sustainability is therefore not an empty promise. It is an essential part of our operations.

Sustainable forest management
Nolte Mezzanine Systems is actively committed to sustainable forest management. Therefore, the floorboards used for Mezzanine floors are available with FSC® labels on request. Each slab is produced and delivered according to European standards.

Energy-saving Nolte Mezzanine floor
Nolte Mezzanine has developed a Mezzanine floor with special hexagonal holes in the steel profiles, allowing lighting to be inserted directly through them. The big advantage of this is that less lighting is needed, as the reflection of light is used. This is why Nolte also supplies its floorboards with a white underlay as standard at no extra cost. A cable channel is also integrated in these beams as standard. This eliminates the need to install additional channels or pipes. Less material, so better for the environment.

BREEAM
BREEAM-NL is the tool for integrally measuring and assessing the sustainability of new buildings, existing buildings, areas and demolition projects. BREEAM-NL is derived from the international BREEAM and is managed and developed by the Dutch Green Building Council

What is BREEAM-NL?
BREEAM-NL is an assessment method to determine the sustainability performance of buildings. The method comprises four different labels. For the application of the Nolte Mezzanine floors, only the first 2 are relevant. First of all, BREEAM-NL New Build and Renovation. This label has been operational since September 2009. It is used to determine the sustainability performance of new buildings. The second label is BREEAM-NL In-Use. This assesses existing buildings on three levels: Building, Management and Use. This became operational in summer 2011. There is also the ‘Bespoke’ option. Buildings that do not fall into any of the categories can be assessed with a Bespoke scheme: BREEAM-NL ‘Bespoke’.

Where does BREEAM come from?
BREEAM stands for Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method and was originally developed and introduced by the Building Research Establishment (BRE), an English research body somewhat similar to the Dutch TNO. With the help of market players, the Dutch Green Building Council has made this guideline suitable for the Dutch market. Therefore, NL has also been added to the hallmark. This makes the Dutch Green Building Council a National Scheme Operator . Besides the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Great Britain, Germany, Sweden and Austria have also made the BREEAM hallmark suitable for their own laws and regulations. More information can be found at https://www.breeam.nl/over-breeam

BREEAM and Nolte
Nolte can help you make at least the Mezzanine floor “BREAAM-proof”. A certification provides a guarantee of a truly sustainable building and also offers eligible benefits. BREEAM is the most widely used sustainability label worldwide. However, such projects require extra effort when certified with the BREEAM-NL sustainability system. After all, additional requirements are imposed on the Mezzanine floor.
